Phyllis
Rachel Larrabee, poet, playwright, storyteller and grandmother will
lead a midwinter poetry workshop for women at the Woodbury Community
Library Saturday, February 15, 12 noon to 2 pm.
Phyllis is a poet,
playwright, storyteller and grandmother. Her
book, Shoveler on the Roof, is found in many Vermont libraries and
local book stores and coops.
Her first collection of poetry in 1974, Old Leaflets for Shopping Lists
and Rashly Written Poems, received a favorable review from the small books editor of the Washington Post.
In 1975, Larrabee fell in love with Vermont and
came here to live with her two sons. She has written 27 collections of poetry
since and a number of plays. In 1980, she received an award from the Vermont
Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 1984, she was a co-producer of Poets Arising,
a show that dramatized poetry with music performed by noted Vermonters Michael
Arnowitt and Patti Casey. Larrabee’s poem, "Informal Logic" was illustrated by
artist Janet Fredericks and became part of a traveling exhibit in New England.
She has also been a programmer for WGDR/WGDH, Goddard College community radio, in Plainfield. In
recognition of the quality of Shoveler on the Roof, Larrabee was the first recipient of
the Grace Paley Scholarship Fund for Vermont writers.
Larrabee loves sharing poetry and helping others to discover and enjoytheir gifts.
